Donna Vekic

Seventeen-year-old Donna Vekic claimed her first WTA title and her first Top 10 victory by defeating top seed Dominika Cibulkova in the final of the BMW Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur. It was her third time lucky in WTA finals, as she had previously lost the 2012 Tashkent Open and the 2013 Birmingham title matches.

The 95th-ranked Croatian triumphed 5-7 7-5 7-6(4) in a dramatic encounter against the WTA’s 2014 match win leader, recovering from 7-5 5-4 down by taking seven games in a row and then, after Cibulkova’s resurgence, managing to win the match in the third-set tiebreak, despite wasting a lead of four games (4-0) in that set. 1. Watched this match live & it was very entertaining – Donna did well to keep her composure & Domi nearly snatched it off her.. One of the best matches of the year so far.
