Maria Sharapova‘s opener at the French Open was a bit delayed due to rain, but the Russian’s mood was “rain or shine, loved being back on Chartier”, as she tweeted today, and she enjoyed every step of her swift victory over Ksenia Pervak, 6-1 6-2 in just one minute over an hour.

The cow-on-ice-turned-figure-skater has now won 47 matches of her last 51 played on clay and the only players who managed to defeat her in that streak were Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic. Will anyone else succeed in doing that at the French Open? Is her next opponent world No.42 Tsvetana Pironkova any threat? Well, probably not, Sharapova is 4-0 against the Bulgarian.

As the weather in Paris was a bit cold this May afternoon, we didn’t get to see Sharapova’s already well-known Nike tunic dress in the best light, as the 2012 French Open champion had to wear long sleeves over it. Still, everything was perfectly matchy – we expected nothing less from Masha!

  1. Loving how the outfit looks on court!! 🙂 I actually love 2/3 sleeves, gives off that very conservative tennis look 🙂
Happy to see Maria to the next round, but would be very excited to see some big upsets! 😀
    I am for Aga!!!!

  2. Michata, I don’t think that 2/3 look conservative, they just generally make the outfit more simple, since players don’t have over-the-top long-sleeve shirts. Sharapova blended everything well, while JJ later on looked to have combined all the things from her wardrobe – leggings, pink shoes, that dress with stripes, everything…
