The 2013 and 2012 Baku Cup champions, Elina Svitolina and Bojana Jovanovski, today reached the semifinals of the fourth edition of the International-level tournament.
The first to reach the final four was the fifth-seeded Jovanovski, who battled hard to stop the run of Japanese qualifier Misa Eguchi, 4-6 7-5 6-3. The world No.183 Eguchi’s professional career started back in 2007, but this week she was making her WTA main draw debut, marking it by elimination of third seed Magdalena Rybarikova in the first round and Urszula Radwanska in the second. Jovanovski’s semifinal opponent will be Stephanie Voegele, who defeated Shahar Peer 6-2 2-6 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
The second-seeded Svitolina, the reigning Baku champion, was the only one who advanced in straight sets today, with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Pauline Parmentier, and her next opponent will be veteran Francesca Schiavone, who got past Kristina Mladenovic 6-3 4-6 6-0.
Additional info: I’ve just added four nice photos of Bojana Jovanovski modeling in the streets of her hometown of Belgrade to my Pinterest board called “WTA Stars as Models”, so make sure to check it out. 😉 (photo: Jimmie48)
