Andrea Petkovic will face Flavia Pennetta for the fifth time in her career in the final of the Garanti Koza WTA Tournament of Champions in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
The fourth-seeded Petkovic worked hard for her third final of the year, as after cruising through the first set she fell behind almost 3-0 in the second set and when she did recover and even earn a break point, she allowed her opponent to save a match point and make a resurgence. However, the 17th-ranked German eventually won 6-1 6-4.
The third-seeded wildcard Pennetta, who clinched the Indian Wells title this season, advanced to the final later on Saturday, by beating Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4 6-2, thus spoiling Petkovic’s chance of avenging her 6-0 6-4 round-robin loss that happened against the Spaniard earlier in the tournament.
