Bethanie Mattek Sands and Lucie Safarova teamed up for the first time at this year’s Australian Open and now they’re holding their first Grand Slam women’s doubles trophy! This is the first time since 2007 that a brand new team has won a title at a major. They were unseeded and during the tournament they took out teams seeded No. 10, 7, 3, 16 and eventually No.14 seeds Chan Yung-Jan and Zheng Jie 6-4 7-6(5) in the final.

Fashion lover Mattek Sands now has 14 women’s doubles titles to her name, including the 2015 Sydney victory with Sania Mirza, plus the 2012 Australian Open mixed doubles trophy with Horia Tecau, while Safarova has clinched her fifth doubles title.
So happy for both of them.
Sabey, me too! And they look so cute together! I love this Bethanie’s tweet with hashtag #WinnerWinnerChickenDinner hahaha 🙂
I love Bethanie! It’s a good thing she comes back from her injury with two doubles trophy immediately she stepped in the court. It was a rare feat and I think they instantly clicked as a team. I watch the match point and Bethanie really gave her everything on the backhand winner!
So happy to see Lucie and Beth win! 🙂
Hopefully this is just a start of their successes together!
