Hugs and kisses: Ana Ivanovic celebrates return to Roland Garros semis with beau Bastian Schweinsteiger

Today is a big day for Ana Ivanovic, as after so many years of failure to live up to the expectations following her 2008 Roland Garros triumph, the Serb has finally made the semis in Paris, her first final four at a Grand Slam in seven years, and she celebrated it accordingly, with her team and her boyfriend Bastian Schweinsteiger. Even though they knew they were being filmed, the couple wasn’t shy of showing affection.

You may like Bastian or not, but this time no one can say that a boyfriend is negatively affecting Ana’s career.

In Tuesday’s quarterfinals, Ivanovic adapted well to the windy conditions, raised her movement level and dispatched Elina Svitolina 6-3 6-2. The former world No.1 recorded 37 winners, opposed to Svitolina’s modest eight, and converted four out of five break point opportunities. Next up for Ivanovic is gutsy Lucie Safarova.

  1. I really see Bastian as a good influence for Ana though I really don’t like him that much in the past. As long as he is happy and Ana is inspired every tome she plays, we can’t complain about that. Ana really played well during her QF match up against Elina. I was watching it and she really dictate the points during the whole match. She wants it badly and she did not give a lot of free points. The wind also helped Ana’s play!

  2. Emman Damian, in the first place I thought that Ana picked yet another player, but for now this relationship seems to be the best one she’s had.

  3. I think Anna is simply gorgeous! Though she and her beau look odd together (he looks old), if she’s happy, that’s all that matters. I don’t know anything about him but I’ve seen online where Anna has been in and out of different relationships, which I was quite surprised by. I wouldn’t think that’s mentally or emotionally healthy. Hopefully, this relationship will be lasting and lead to marriage. By the way, why isn’t anyone mentioning Sloane Stephens and Jack Sock’s relationship anymore? I do discern they are no longer a couple (that was short-lived), but I can’t help but wonder why. Anyone know what’s up with them?

  4. Ana did well in Roland Garros despite falling to Lucie on a very close two sets. I hope this will be the springboard on her mini career revival this year. She is in the right oath. She will move one place to number 6 tomorrow in World Rankings.

  5. The Real Deal, I had a conversation with a reader on Twitter and she told me that they must have broken up. They unfollowed each other on Twitter. I have no confirmations or more updates, but it seems that they have parted ways.

  6. Thanks, Marija, for the update on Sloane and Jack! For some reason, I never thought their relationship would last. Especially after she did that magazine interview, speaking candidly about being on birth control since dating him. That was something I felt should have remained very private. She seems to be more focused when playing tennis these days, now that they’re no longer a couple. Hopefully, she’ll stay focused and start winning some majors.

  7. The Real Deal, the birth control didn’t suggest much to me in terms of their relationship, as she is very young to be having children, especially considering her career. There still is plenty of time for both of them.
