Down to final four in Eastbourne

With Wimbledon closing in quickly, things are moving rapidly towards an exciting conclusion at the 2015 AEGON International as the semifinals in Eastbourne have been set on Thursday.

Originally, the day had four exciting quarterfinal matches on the agenda, unfortunately for all spectators Thursday ended up being one match short, since Daria Gavrilova had to withdraw from her match against Sloane Stephens, giving the American a walkover into the round of the final four.

While not exactly enjoying the same luxury, Agnieszka Radwanska was able to limit her time on court on Thursday as well, clinching a very swift straight-set win over Tsvetana Pironkova. Belinda Bencic on the other hand had to put in a lot more effort to punch her ticket for the semis as her duel with Johanna Konta went the distance, much to the delight of the capacity crowd.

Unfortunately for the patriotic British fans, Konta was on the losing end of the exciting three-set match as Bencic continues to enjoy a very strong grass season, backing her `s-Hertogenbosch final up with a semifinal appearance in Eastbourne.

Bencic will be meeting Caroline Wozniacki in the next round as the Danish former world #1 got past Germany’s Andrea Petkovic on Thursday. While the first set turned out to be a scramble that could have gone either way, the former Eastbourne champion never looked back after deciding the first set in her favor, sailing through to the semifinals.
