imageOn Sunday, Annika Beck of Germany defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-2 6-2 in a match that lasted 53 minutes to claim the Coupe Banque Nationale championship.

Beck delivered a strong service game and was never broken after the end of the first set. In fact, she seemed unchallenged by her Latvian opponent, even though she already lost to her twice this year, including a 6-4 1-6 6-4 defeat at the 2015 US Open.

Despite the loss, the 18-year-old Ostapenko made a name for herself this tournament and while last year she won the junior tournament at Wimbledon.

The future looks bright for both young players, but it was Beck who came away with the trophy after defeating defending champion Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the semifinals and continuing her momentum into this match. The victory in Quebec is her second career WTA title, with the first coming last year in Luxembourg. (photo: Jimmie48)
