We are just one day away from the 2015 Fed Cup final, as the Czech Republic and Russia will go head to head on Saturday in Prague’s o2 Arena.
Friday in the Czech capital was highlighted by the event’s draw ceremony that was held in the beautiful historic city hall. The draw determined the event’s order of play: Petra Kvitova & Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will kick off singles action on Saturday, followed by Maria Sharapova’s match against Karolina Pliskova.
The nomination of the Czech’s young rising star instead of Lucie Safarova came as a surprise to many, since most experts would have expected the more experienced Safarova to play the singles ties. Even though she’ll only be playing doubles this weekend, there was plenty of reason to be happy for Safarova, who was honored with the Fed Cup Heart Award on Friday.
The rest of the day both teams spent preparing for the big showdown inside the arena. While the mood in the Czech camp was very much relaxed, Maria Sharapova completed a very focused and intense practice session, choosing to practice with her coach Sven Groeneveld and hitting partner Dieter Kindlmann instead of the Russian team.
The 2015 Fed Cup final will kick off at 2:00PM local time tomorrow with two singles ties, followed by the other two singles ties and a doubles match on Sunday.
