Tennis fashion time: All Garbine Muguruza’s Stella styles in stellar 2015 season

9

This week I launched my annual off-season WTA fashion retrospections with an overview of Serena Williams’ Nike 2015 dresses and now I’m eager to show you all the Adidas by Stella McCartney outfits that made Garbine Muguruza comfortable during her milestone season. Notice that in my previous yearly overviews the honor was always given to Caroline Wozniacki, while now I feel it’s time to move on to the world No.3 Spaniard.

Muguruza opened the season in Sydney, wearing the previous year’s Adidas Fall Adizero Dress in color vivid berry, most famously worn by Ana Ivanovic. As you can see, the Spaniard wasn’t clad in Stella McCartney back then.

For the first Grand Slam of the season and all the way to the second one, Muguruza was wearing the Adidas Spring Stella McCartney Barricade Tank and the coordinating floral Adidas Spring Stella McCartney Barricade Skirt.

In Doha, Muguruza showed the beautiful long-sleeved shirt from the collection.

At a number of tournaments, the two-time WTA titlist combined her printed skirt with the grey version of the tank. As you can see, the front part of the tank has a nice slimming color-block, while the back has a cute keyhole cutout.

For Muguruza’s French Open campaign and Wimbledon tune-ups, Stella shifted to more contrasting color-blocks, unique for the amber yellow shade when it comes to the Adidas Summer Barricade Stella McCartney Tank, while in the bottom part of the outfit the designer introduced embroidered flowers on sides. I presented this summer collection in detail back in April.

Muguruza reached her maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon in an outfit that deserved to get so much exposure: the Adidas Fall Stella McCartney Tank with textured zones and a nice yellow half-zip, plus the really unique skirt, totally see-through with circular laser cuts, while it does feature built-in compression shorts.

In North America players always get back to lively colors and Muguruza hopped in the yellow and grey version of her Wimbledon outfit.

The final stage of the season was super successful for Muguruza, as she won the title in Beijing, finished runner-up in Wuhan, and made her debut in the WTA Finals where she reached the semis. All those achievements came in Stella’s winter collection featuring this famous outfit in which Flavia Pennetta won the US Open. As you can see, the Adidas Winter Stella McCartney Tank is the continuation of the shirt style that was introduced back at the Australian Open and versions of which were constantly present during the season, while the paneled skirt which exists in two shades of grey is a classic.

What’s your verdict on Muguruza’s 2015 Stella outfits? When it comes to style, I think that Garbine’s year was as successful as her tennis results, while my favorite separates are the Australian Open ones, the romantic skirt that’s nicely paired with the very athletic tank.

  1. Marija, I agree with you. The separates Garbine wore for the Australian Open and much of the first half of the year were so whimsical, romantic and athletic. It was the perfect combination. I thought all of her styles accentuated the strength of her tennis game, particularly that interesting Wimbledon skirt. I remember in her Semifinal versus Radwanska, the movement and flow was just beautiful! Great review of some great outfits, Marija!

  2. I absolutely loved both versions of the Australian open kit as well!

So you won’t feature caroline in the retrospections as well then? She did have some great dresses to show, too

  3. Thanks so much, Marija for presenting the style and athleticism of the future star Muguruza. I particularly liked the Wimbledon outfit and the transition of it to the yellow and gray at Cincinnati. I just hope that Garbine keeps a level head with all the success, and does not go the way of Eugenie Bouchard.

  4. Brian, thank you so much. I read your comment several times 😀

Ga, I don’t know… I can overview Caro’s outfits as well, why not. I also loved her 2015 dresses, especially her green AO one. I think that’s my favorite of the season, although I may change my mind when I do the overview and see all the dresses in one place.

Jim, thank you for contributing to my posts with your comments! The Wimbledon outfit is also one of my favorites and it is actually one of my 2015 favorites overall.

  5. Kueyseyra, I agree, all the outfits suits her so well.

Emman Damian, I also like the winter collection, although it’s not my No.1 choice from Stella’s 2015.
