Sunday was a very busy day at the Mutua Madrid Open, with more than 25 first-round matches taking place, including upsets of top seed Agnieszka Radwanska and second seed Angelique Kerber, but sunny morning hours in the Caja Magica also featured a spectacle in which 1,474 people bounced tennis balls on tennis racquets at the same time for ten seconds, breaking the Guinness World Record set at the 2015 China Open, when 767 persons participated.

Several WTA players took part in this record-breaking event and Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva even recorded a selfie video during the historic ball bouncing.

WTA players Arantxa Parra Santoja, Anabel Medina Garrigues, Olga Savchuk, Vania King, as well as retired tennis star Dinara Safina, who works as a link between the tournament organisation and female players, all took part, alongside their male colleagues Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The racquets and balls used were courtesy of Dunlop. (source: Mutua Madrid Open)
