Dinara Safina stays remembered as one of the most likable and passionate WTA players and I’m glad to hear that she’ll be at the May 2nd – May 9th Mutua Madrid Open, acting as a link between the organization and female players. By the way, Women’s Tennis Blog’s photographer Jimmie48 will be there as well 😉

Madrid is a special place for the Russian, who speaks fluent Spanish: she won the title there in 2009, while the Caja Magica was also the venue of her official retirement announcement last year following the women’s final between Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep.

I have a special relationship with Madrid. Something always happens here: I won the title, I played my last tournament, I retired.

Before the 2015 edition of the tournament starts, make sure to follow Safina on Twitter, where she shares her thoughts, moods, exercise routines, and other peculiar information like her shoe talisman and her spa selfies.

The 28-year-old Safina boasts the WTA No.1 ranking in her biography, she won 12 singles and 12 doubles titles, and made the final of three Grand Slams.

  1. Emman Damian, I doubt she’ll come back. She’s been away for too long and had really struggled with injuries. But it doesn’t mean that she won’t accept more opportunities such as this one, to stay involved with tennis but away from the competition.

  2. Even though I like Dinara. I really hope she doesn’t comeback It was very painful to watch her in that much of pain
