Muguruza on a mission, rolls past Stosur into French Open finals

While Serena Williams was struggling against Kiki Bertens in the semifinal on Court Philippe Chatrier, Garbine Muguruza was never troubled against Samantha Stosur on Court Suzanne Lenglen, recording a confident 6-2 6-4 victory to reach her first French Open final.

The world No.4 Muguruza quickly built a 4-0 lead and the 2010 French Open finalist Stosur never even gave glimpses of hope that she could turnaround the first set.

The second set was more competitive, as the 32-year-old Stosur managed to recover from 0-2 to 2-2, but again she never led in this encounter and the entire match was dictated by Muguruza, who went a double break up from 2-all.

Serving for the match at 5-2, Muguruza’s serve was broken to love, but the Spaniard held her serve the next time and became the first finalist of the 2016 French Open.

  1. Should be a good final between Garbi and Serena. Muguruza has Serena’s number at Roland Garros. June 3rd is the 1st birthday of Li Na’s daughter Alisa, as well as Rafa Nadal’s 30th birthday.

  2. BTW, it looks like Li Na and Dennis are expecting their second child according to her latest Facebook post:

“Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I checked in. I wanted to let you know that Dennis and I are having our second baby later on this year. We are very excited to add a new member to our family and for our daughter Alisa to have a younger sibling.

I am also excited to work with a new partner – Nongfu Spring Baby Water. It is the first baby product I will be working with and I can’t wait to get started. Lastly, I’ve become an ambassador for my hometown tournament Wuhan Open and I look forward to seeing everyone very soon in China.

Hope you enjoy the upcoming Roland Garros, a tournament that has a very special place in my heart 🙂 I will be watching!”

  3. Wow, I can’t believe I missed that blog. My apologies Marija, you are always on top of the game. Thanks for posting the link!
