Monday at the 2016 US Open was a day of major upsets as two up-and-coming players ended the year’s final Grand Slam run of two marquee WTA players.
WTA legend Venus Williams lost her fourth-round match to Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova. Pliskova overcame losing the first set and being unable to convert three match points in a thrilling three-setter to make her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal.
In the evening session, young Croatian sensation Ana Konjuh continued her breakout US Open run by beating Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets.
