The field of the 2017 Bank of the West Classic completed on Monday as #2 seed Petra Kvitova arrived in California, preparing for her debut at the long-running event.
After completing a practice session, Kvitova was quizzed on her Stanford knowledge during the All-Access Hour, a test she passed with flying colors.
In the evening, Maria Sharapova took the court, playing her first-round match against Jennifer Brady. After Sharapova won the first set, Brady rebounded in the second, forcing a third-set decider that the Russian five-time Grand Slam champion firmly controlled.
Afterwards, fans in Stanford went nuts for Sharapova who gave the tournament the second best opening Monday in terms of attendance since 2009, when Sharapova last played the opening Monday in California.
