Sixth seed Caroline Wozniacki started her 2017 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global campaign impressively by making short work of fourth-seeded tournament debutante Elina Svitolina in the second Red Group match on Monday.
The 2010 WTA Finals runner-up Wozniacki held to love in her opening service game, then jumped to a 4-2 lead and powered through ten consecutive games to record a 6-2 6-0 victory in just 58 minutes. Rocking Stella McCartney’s seamless, slim-fit top and a cute matching skirt with asymmetrically colorblocked exposed elastic waistband, Wozniacki spectacularly converted all the five break points she earned!
This is Wozniacki’s first win over Svitolina in their four meetings, two of which included straight-set losses in giant 2017 title matches: at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February and the Rogers Cup in August.
Earlier in the day, top seed Simona Halep kicked off the Red Group action with a confident victory over Caroline Garcia. Tomorrow’s schedule includes the continuation of the White Group round-robin play: the first match will be between Sunday’s losers Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko, followed by an encounter of Sunday’s winners Karolina Pliskova and Garbine Muguruza.
Elina is one of the most consistent players this season with the most titles. I think she still has a shot on SF spot. Let’s see.
