The Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai will be contested between German Julia Goerges and American Coco Vandeweghe, as both players eliminated their semifinal opponents with 6-3 6-3 victories.
The seventh-seeded Goerges was absolutely flawless against fifth seed Anastasija Sevastova, hitting 41 winners to 18 errors in a 71-minute match. Moreover, Goerges’ five aces today take her tally for 2017 to 410, which is second on tour to Karolina Pliskova’s total of 452, while only one other woman in history, Serena Williams, has surpassed the 400-ace mark in a single season (2012-15).
The world No.18 Goerges is now into her fifth final of 2017 and on an eight-match winning streak. After the tournament, she’ll be the highest-ranked German WTA player, rising to No.16, while if she wins the title, she’ll have a new career-high of No.14.
Sporting the arctic aqua Asics Fall Athlete Dress, just like Julia Goerges, the second-seeded Vandeweghe recorded a straightforward win over ninth seed Ashleigh Barty, who’s level of play was good as well, except when it came to getting returns back in play. Vandeweghe is projected to crack the Top 10 for the first time in her career when the new rankings are released on Monday.
It was an All Asics final. Coco had a sun visor during the match to differentiate herself as she had the same dress as Jule. I think this color was nice. Both are playing so well as of the moment.
Emman Damian, yes, an all-Asics final. The dress looks great on both of them, although I prefer it a bit on Jule, because of her eye color.
I have to agree with that.
When Daria Gavrilova played another Asics player (I think it was Johnana Konta?) a while back, she wore an older outfit, presumably so they wouldn’t both be wearing exactly the same. I think that would have been better.
Though at least Julia is dark and Coco blond so it was a bit easier to tell them apart from a distance.
