Monday’s schedule at the Miami Open featured all eight fourth-round matches, so the quarterfinal draw was set as we got through the first day of the week. In a battle of reigning Grand Slam champions, Sloane Stephens defeated Garbine Muguruza 6-3 6-4, while in a clash of former Miami champs, Victoria Azarenka outlasted Agnieszka Rawanska 6-2 6-2.
Venus Williams eliminated title defender Johanna Konta 5-7 6-1 6-2, Angelique Kerber earned a hard-fought 6-7(1) 7-6 (5) 6-3 victory over Wang Yafan, Elina Svitolina overcame a slow start to storm past Ashleigh Barty 7-5 6-4, Jelena Ostapenko braved the elements and beat Petra Kvitova 7-6(4) 6-3 late into the windy night, Karolina Pliskova advanced when Zarina Diyas retired in the second set, while American qualifier Danielle Collins backed up her strong Indian Wells showing with a great fortnight in Miami, beating Monica Puig 3-6 6-4 6-2.
