Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova delivered a healthy baby boy on the night of March 27th and joined the ever-growing list of WTA moms.
The Bulgarian announced the news on Instagram, posting the above pic of a teddy bear, baby bottle and her wedding photo. Local media are reporting that the baby boy’s name is Alexander. Remember, Pironkova married her long-time partner Mihail Mirchev in July 2016.
The 30-year-old from Plovdiv was among those WTA moms who didn’t feel like giving us updates of her growing belly on social media, but we did know that she was pregnant, as the news was revealed in December. Her last tennis match was her second-round loss to Caroline Wozniacki at Wimbledon 2017. At that tournament she also launched her tennis fashion company Pironetic, but it seems that the clothing business is taking a break as well, as I haven’t seen her promoting new designs and collections.
We still don’t know whether Tsvetana plans a comeback, but she definitely has a lot of encouraging examples of active WTA moms, the freshest one being Mandy Minella’s title win at an ITF event in Italy over the weekend, five months after she gave birth to daughter Emma Lina.
