In the first women’s quarterfinal at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, defending champion Elina Svitolina defeated Angelique Kerber 6-4 6-4. Maria Sharapova won an epic against Jelena Ostapenko that lasted 3 hours and 11 minutes, 6-7(6) 6-4 7-5. Simona Halep completed the semifinal line-up with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Caroline Garcia.
The only quarterfinal our Jimmie48 didn’t manage to cover was Anett Kontaveit‘s quick 6-3 6-1 win over Caroline Wozniacki, because the match started and finished well within the Sharapova vs. Ostapenko thriller and it took place in the Next Gen Arena which is far away from Center Court. However, we do have photos of Anett Kontaveit’s smiles during the press conference.
