Serena Williams has known just a bit of success on the lawns of SW19 and Nike is releasing a limited-edition shoe to celebrate her return to Wimbledon action after missing the tournament last year. (Pregnancy and all.) This model is called the Serena x Air Force 1 iD “Strong and Sure” and Nike says this shoe can be customized via NIKEiD with options like premium leather, dual outsoles, and gold-plated accents. (Gold, befitting her status as the women’s GOAT, no?)
Note the design on the upper — that’s the Serena “S” we first saw in Indian Wells. (BTW, there’s this shirt, too.) Interesting that Nike hasn’t branded any clothing with that — just like it’s yet to put the “SW” you see on the heel tab on any tops, skirts, jackets, etc.
Sharapova also has her own MS monogram (resembles a dollar sign to me), but like the Serena SW, it’s been seen very sparingly. (Her Head tennis bag sports this logo.) This is unlike the ubiquitous “RF” logo that men’s GOAT Roger Federer has sported for years on his own Nike line.
I suppose you could wear this shoe for tennis, but it’s styled more as a basketball + casual shoe — the Air Force 1 tag has long been associated with a popular Nike basketball line. The limited NIKEiD style will be available on nike.com July 2. Nike says that North American NikePlus members will get “exclusive” access to this style in the Nike App. (Android and iOS.)
