It was a very long day for our Jimmie48 on Tuesday at the Western & Southern Open, but he pulled it off and we have plenty of photos, including those of the late night epic between Petra Kvitova and Serena Williams, that the Czech won 6-3 2-6 6-3 and advanced to the third round. When it comes to the second round, we also have photos of sixth seed Caroline Garcia‘s victory over Victoria Azarenka and fifth seed Elina Svitolina‘s win over Svetlana Kuznetsova.
A number of first-round matches took place on Tuesday as well. Our gallery includes coverage of Maria Sakkari‘s win over Naomi Osaka, Petra Martic‘s upset of seed No.12 Daria Kasatkina and Kiki Bertens‘ demolition of Coco Vandeweghe.

Not surprised at all by this loss on Serena’s part. She’s not back to form yet, though almost there, and IMO returned to play too soon, considering what she went through birthing her cute and precocious daughter. I think she (as well as some of the other greats who lost their matches early on) is saving her usual fight power to go full force during the upcoming US Open. We’ll see what happens there. In the meantime, I wish her well; she’s still in the eyes of many the GOAT, including me. Congrats to Kiki Bertens on her win against Kvitová. I was so wishing they would’ve played Drake’s hit song after her win so I could hear him say, “Kiki, do you love me?” I think that would’ve blown her mind (or does she even know who Drake is and is she aware of his trendy hit song).
