Early seasons are always filled with new clothing deals and the first one we’re witnessing this year is Johanna Konta‘s switch from Asics to Ellesse.
As you know, our Jimmie48 is in Brisbane. Today he photographed the world No.37’s practice session and noticed that the Brit is no longer clad in Asics, rather, her black training gear boasts the logo of Ellesse.
Konta used to be among Asics’ leading representatives. When it comes to Ellesse, Konta will boost their presence in the tennis world (the brand’s sole WTA representative used to be world No.53 Monica Puig, who is now with Yonex). Moreover, I hope that the Ellesse clothes will now be more widely available, because so far they could only be bought on the Japanese market.
Konta’s 2019 Brisbane International campaign starts with Sloane Stephens as first-round obstacle.
How about Monica Puig who switches to Yonex from Ellesse and Kiki Bertens to Fila from Mizuno?
Baby Kong, oh sure, I haven’t noticed Kiki and Monica, I see it now! Thanks for telling me. I will also report about that.
Johanna against Sloane first round? Wow that’s a rough start to her 2019 campaign. Surprised she didn’t take the Hopman cup offer
Marija, I’d also like to add Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who is now wearing Lacoste. Honestly, I didn’t see it coming considering she had her own design with Sofibella
I posted a new article about changes in fashion sponsorships: https://womenstennisblog.com/2018/12/30/puig-bertens-pavlyuchenkova-change-clothing-sponsors/
Although, it’s strange that Puig didn’t wear Yonex in her R1 match in Auckland. She was still in Ellesse.
I really liked Konta with asics apparel.
I live in Japan, but we can’t buy asics tennis women’s apparel in Japan….It’s only available in Europe or US.
Olin, while Puig’s Ellesse was only available in Japan 😀
She looks so old imN them
