After her turbulent long-term relationship with tennis pro Nick Kyrgios, Australian WTA star Ajla Tomljanovic has coupled with Italian ATP player Matteo Berrettini.
As Tennis Tonic reports, the 26-year-old Ajla was spotted cheering for Matteo during the US Open and the Vienna Open.
In an interview with La Gazetta, Matteo said that their relationship is mostly long-distance, as they both travel a lot, so they heavily rely on video chat. As for their shared interests, Matteo revealed:
We are two quiet people, we share a passion for dogs and TV series.
Berrettini turned pro six years after his three years older girlfriend, but his career accomplishments already include a Top 10 ranking (currently he sits at a career-high of No.8), the 2019 US Open semifinals and a debut in the prestigious eight-player singles field of the 2019 Nitto ATP Finals to be contested in London’s O2 Arena next week.
When it comes to Tomljanovic, she’s currently ranked No.51, while her highest ranking was No.39. The Croatian-born Australian has won four WTA finals, including one this year in Hua Hin, Thailand. Her best Grand Slam result is the fourth round of Roland Garros 2014.
Even though Matteo does share photos with his girlfriend Ajla on social media, it’s interesting that his Instagram account also features a photo with his ex, another tennis player, Lavinia Lancellotti of Italy. The above photo was posted in October 2016. It’s kind of cool that Matteo doesn’t bother to delete his old relationship photos, but at the same time it’s awkward, as people tend to remove all traces of their past love partners from the online world.
This weekend, Ajla is playing the Fed Cup final in Perth, Australia, but after she finishes those duties, we expect her to fly to London and cheer on her boyfriend.
