The one-time-only partnership between Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki is doing damage in the ASB Classic doubles draw, as the good friends, who have never before played on the same side of the net, upset top seeds Johanna Larsson and Caroline Dolehide on Wednesday.

Winning their second match in Auckland’s doubles competition, Williams and Wozniacki are through to the semifinals. The team consisting of two former world singles No.1s recorded a 6-2 6-1 victory over accomplished doubles players —  Larsson, who has won 14 doubles titles, and Dolehide, a doubles semifinalist at the 2019 US Open.

Just as in their opening match, Williams was a driving force, but the tennis legend with 25 doubles titles to her name praised that her partner “never missed”. Williams is very supportive of Wozniacki, as we can conclude from the Dane’s quote:

We’re just having a great time. Even if I miss a couple and I’m mad at myself, Serena is always so positive. She’s like, ‘You’re doing great. You’re doing amazing,’ so it makes you feel good out there.

When it comes to singles, both have made the second round. Wozniacki awaits Lauren Davis on Thursday, while Williams will play fellow American Christina McHale. (via ESPN)
