The Volvo Car Open has announced that Grand Slam champions Sloane Stephens and Kim Clijsters have taken a doubles wildcard and will compete together at the April 6-12 Charleston tournament.
The two players have never faced each other in singles. Legendary Clijsters was Stephens’ favorite player growing up and the Belgian even congratulated the American in person after her 2017 US Open title.

The 26-year-old Stephens shared her excitement about the new partnership on Twitter, where there’s also a poll for the nickname of their doubles team and the current leader is “Slijsters”.
The four-time major singles and two-time major doubles champion Clijsters, who has so far played just two singles matches after ending a seven-year break from tennis, was ranked No.1 in doubles, while Stephens’ career-high doubles ranking was No.94.
