Tennis players are spending an unusually long period of time at home now that play has been suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the WTA and ATP have created a new weekly show to catch up with players and see how they’ve been handling this quarantine situation. The first episode of the show entitled Tennis United was presented on Friday as Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Vasek Pospisil caught up with several fellow players and also commented on social media challenges, TikTok dances and other content put out by their colleagues.

In the beginning of Episode 1, Bethanie takes us on a tour through her Phoenix, Arizona home. When I saw her collection of tournament towels, this hilarious TikTok clip by Kristie Ahn immediately crossed my mind:

@kristieahnWhat’s up with tennis players and our obsession with towels anyway?

Then, Sofia Kenin and Donna Vekic tuned in via a video call.

The 2020 Australian Open champion Kenin says that she’s doing her best to stay motivated and practices as hard as ever, so that she can continue where she left off when play resumes.

The world No.24 Vekic, who hasn’t spent this much time in her home Croatia since she was 10 years old, started the interview by saying “I’m starting to go a little bit crazy.” Vekic is using her extra free time to develop her cooking skills, while her workouts have been updated with a lot of yoga and pilates.

Episode 2 will air next Friday.
