Round-robin phase of the Mutua Madrid Virtual Pro completed on Tuesday, with Fiona Ferro, Sorana Cirstea, Caroline Wozniacki and Kiki Bertens reaching the quarterfinals by winning all their three round-robin matches and earning the leading positions in their respective groups.

The 2019 Mutua Madrid Open champion Kiki Bertens is on a good way to defend her title in the virtual environment. It’s nice to see that most players decided to wear their tennis outfits for their at-home matches — here we can see Kiki in her new Fila dress from the 30 Love collection.

Besides the four undefeated players, the second-ranked players from each group have also made the final eight: Belinda Bencic, Johanna Konta, Bianca Andreescu and Donna Vekic. Four players are leaving this unusual “tennis” tournament without a single win: Carla Suarez Navarro, Elina Svitolina, Madison Keys and Eugenie Bouchard.

Group 1

1. Fiona Ferro
2. Belinda Bencic
3. Karolina Pliskova
4. Carla Suarez Navarro

Group 2

1. Sorana Cirstea
2. Johanna Konta
3. Victoria Azarenka
4. Elina Svitolina

Group 3

1. Caroline Wozniacki
2. Bianca Andreescu
3. Kristina Mladenovic
4. Madison Keys

Group 4

3. Angelique Kerber
4. Eugenie Bouchard

Already on Day 1 Cirstea and Wozniacki established themselves as favorites at this “tennis” tournament and on Day 2 they continued their dominance. Neither of the two had any previous experience in gaming.

Discussing her yesterday’s win over Elina Svitolina where she saved three match points, Cirstea said:

It was an unbelievable comeback… the fact that I picked up a PlayStation one week ago, this means a lot.

Besides saying that she considers Bertens to be the favorite, Wozniacki commented on her own gaming skills:

I just got my PlayStation a few days ago, so I guess I’m a natural.

The quarterfinal clashes are as follows:

Fiona Ferro (FRA) vs. Donna Vekic (CRO)
Sorana Cirstea (ROU) vs. Bianca Andreescu (CAN)
Caroline Wozniacki (DNK) vs. Johanna Konta (GBR)
Kiki Bertens (NLD) vs. Belinda Bencic (SUI)

You can follow the tournament live at Mutua Madrid Open’s Facebook page starting at 3 p.m. local time.
