Former WTA world No.27 Laura Robson has officially made public her relationship with James Yates, posting a romantic photo of them together on Instagram on Saturday and thus joining our WTA Players and their Love Partners feature.
The British couple has been dating for a while and Laura’s tennis colleagues are all commenting something like “it was about time you made it public.” Freya Christie remarked “Never thought I’d see the day,” Jodie Burrage said “Insta official, about timeeee,” Katie Boulter commented “Finally,” while Madison Keys’ reaction was “Omg. An actual post?!?!”
James made the relationship Instagram official a week before Laura, by posting the above photo of them together. Laura’s comment “Insta official a year on” reveals that they’ve been dating for about a year.
The readers of Women’s Tennis Blog are familiar with Laura Robson’s career, but who is the guy that took her heart? He is a very successful model, whose portfolio includes campaigns for Tom Ford Underwear Spring 2019 and Hugo Boss Bodywear S/S 2020.
As James revealed in one interview in November 2019, he is a highly sensitive person:
If you’re close to me you’ll know this–I always put up a bit of a front, but I’m a massive softie. I try not to let too many people know that, but my close friends and family know. My girlfriend knows. I’m quite sensitive I suppose, which is weird in fashion. You do have to be quite thick-skinned.
Also, when asked where he sees himself in five years, his response included Laura, although he didn’t mention her name:
I’d like to be doing something cool, maybe set up something on my own that provides value to other people. And supporting my girlfriend, she’s a tennis player so she travels just as much. It’d be quite nice to be able to travel together.
