Bianca Andreescu reached the top of the tennis world by winning back-to-back titles at the Rogers Cup and the US Open last year, but the Canadian world No.7 hasn’t played since retiring from her Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen round-robin match against Karolina Pliskova in October 2019 and the latest news is that we’ll wait until 2021 to see her on the court again.
The 20-year-old Andreescu missed the Australian Open because of a knee injury, then Wimbledon was cancelled because of the pandemic and she also withdrew from the US Open, only to let us know now that the recovery is still in process and her return is expected next season.
I have come to the difficult decision to skip the clay court swing this year and will be taking the remainder of the season off to focus on my health and training. As hard as it was to come to this conclusion, I have so much to look forward to in 2021, including the Olympics; I want to use this time to focus on my game so I can come back stronger and better than ever.
Andreescu has been pretty silent in recent months, so this news comes as no surprise.
