Top seed Simona Halep demolished Amanda Anisimova 6-0 6-1 in the third round of the French Open, avenging the defeat she suffered to the American in the quarterfinals here last year as a defending champion.

The 19-year-old Anisimova had conceded just four games across opening two rounds, but managed to win just one game against Halep.

Anisimova, seeded 25th in Paris, had five break points in Halep’s opening service game, but didn’t converted any of them and never earned more chances in the remainder of the 54-minute match absolutely dominated by the Romanian.

Halep is in the midst of a career-best 17-match winning streak. Her fourth-round opponent will be Poland’s Iga Swiatek, who defeated Eugenie Bouchard 6-3 6-2 earlier on Friday.
