Garbine Muguruza continued her fine form at the Yarra Valley Classic with a confident 6-1 6-0 victory over Marketa Vondrousova and set up a meeting with world No.1 Ashleigh Barty in the title match of the Australian Open warm-up tournament.

The sixth-seeded Muguruza lost just ten games on her way to the final. After a first-round bye, she defeated Alison Van Uytvanck 6-2 6-0 without facing a break point, then she ousted Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1 6-2 in another match lasting just under an hour, in the quarterfinal against reigning Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin she hit 10 aces to record another decisive victory at 6-2 6-2, and in Saturday’s semifinals she dispatched 2019 Roland Garros runner-up Vondrousova in just 54 minutes.

Home-favorite Barty received a walkover into the final when Serena Williams withdrew due to a right shoulder injury on Friday.

In their head-to-head record, Barty leads Muguruza 2-1, with all three meetings going three sets.

  1. Muguruza is so good when she’s on… Years ago I really thought she would be the one above all others for years but she lacks consistency, that’s too bad.
