Serena Williams continues to solidify her status of a tennis style legend. Even after 25 years on the WTA Tour, the 39-year-old American dominates the tennis fashion scene with show-stopping Grand Slam looks by Nike. Her latest statement outfit is a one-legged colorblock catsuit debuted in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open.

Williams needed less than an hour to beat Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-1 6-1. The match will likely be forgotten soon, but the colorful, asymmetrical outfit inspired by the late track star Florence Griffith Joyner will stay remembered for years to come.

I was inspired by Flo-Jo, who was a wonderful track athlete, amazing athlete when I was growing up. Watching her fashion, just always changing, her outfits were always amazing. This year we thought of what can we do to keep elevating the Serena Williams on the court. The Nike team actually thought of this design of inspiration from Flo-Jo. I was like, ‘Oh, my god, this is so brilliant.’

While the catsuit is not available for purchase, Nike surprised Serena’s fans with a series of cotton T-shirts that celebrate the 23-time Grand Slam champion’s career. At today’s post-match press conference, Serena wore one of those T-shirts, the black Unstoppable Queen one.

  1. Wow, what a statement, I wasnt mad at the one legged track suit, but color combo is just a tad too much.
I thought her ’18 RG body suit was better in term of making a statement, color choices and designs.

  2. Ian, this is one of Serena’s boldest looks ever. The black catsuit was extraordinary, but this one is even more daring. Personally, I love it. Bright colors look great on Serena and she can pull off any type of unusual design.

  3. I like the outfit, but would prefer if it was a dress, personally!! And maybe like less colours, like black and red. Like the blue on the neckline!! Definitely one of her most unique outfits!
Love the braided ponytail as well.
