Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka are the first women’s quarterfinal pair at Wimbledon 2021 as they both came through three-setters to advance to the final eight in London for the first time in their careers.
Ons Jabeur won 7/7 break points to upset seventh seed Iga Swiatek 5-7 6-1 6-1 and became the first Arab player to reach Wimbledon quarterfinals since 1974. After eliminating Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza, the Tunisian’s impressive run now includes three consecutive victories over Grand Slam champions.
Meanwhile on Court No.3, Aryna Sabaleka moved into her first major quarterfinal with a 6-3 4-6 6-3 win over Elena Rybakina. The second-seeded Sabalenka entered Wimbledon as the only Top 20 player who had never reached the last eight at a Grand Slam.
