World number one Ashleigh Barty overcame an early deficit to battle past reigning Roland Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova 7-5 6-3 and move into her first Wimbledon quarterfinals.

The 14th-seeded Krejcikova was the first to take charge with a 3-1 lead in the opening set and held on to that lead until the eighth game when Barty leveled to 4-4. In her next service game, Krejcikova saved a set point before holding serve, but Barty followed up by winning two consecutive games at love to take the set.

The 2019 French Open champion Barty went 4-2 up in the second set and even though Krejcikova got that one break back, the Australian again stole her opponent’s serve for a 5-3 lead and sealed the match with an ace in her service game.

In the quarterfinals, Barty will face compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic, who advanced when British teen sensation Emma Raducanu retired because of breathing difficulties, while trailing 4-6 0-3.
