Czech Petra Kvitova has revealed to national media that her boyfriend is her long-time coach Jiri Vanek.
The 43-year-old Vanek started working with Kvitova during the 2016 off-season, following his cooperation with Karolina Pliskova.
Rumors about the new Czech tennis couple starting circling last June, when Vanek was spotted sleeping in Kvitova’s apartment. At the time, the former ATP world No.74 was going through a divorce from his wife Marketa, with whom he has two teenage sons. However, Kvitova’s spokesperson Karel Tejkal explained that the WTA player was only providing her coach with a place to stay, as her apartment was spacious and it was hard to find accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a recent interview with Blesk, just before heading to the United States to play the 2021 US Open Series, Kvitova confirmed that she is not single and that her boyfriend is indeed her coach Jiri Vanek. The 31-year-old explained that last year’s talks about them being a couple were just rumors.
The word is out that Petra and Jiri started dating in May this year, during the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome. Czech readers, if there’s any more info you can add, please do so in the comments below this post.
