Argentina’s retired tennis player Gisela Dulko expressly left her ten-year marriage with former footballer Fernando Gago because of his infidelity.
The 36-year-old Dulko found out that her husband was cheating on her with her best friend, Veronica Laffitte, a dance school owner. It was in her own home, in her own bed, that the former doubles WTA world No.1 reportedly caught the former Real Madrid midfielder with his mistress.
The infidelity story was first made public by Argentinian journalist Cinthia Fernandez on Argentine TV: “She opened the door and there was Fernando Gago with this other woman.”
Even though Dulko has three young children with Gago, aged three, six and eight, she didn’t hesitate to separate right away because of the affair. She also changed her children’s school, because the mistress is one of moms from their kids’ school.
After 11 years of playing on the WTA Tour, Dulko retired in 2012. Four WTA singles and 17 doubles titles, including the 2011 Australian Open doubles crown with Flavia Pennetta, marked the career of the most successful women’s tennis player from Argentina.
