Back in August it was announced that Emma Raducanu would play a singles exhibition match in November’s Champions Tennis tournament and now it’s been revealed that her opponent in front of home fans in London will be 24-year-old Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse.
The four-day ATP Champions Tour event will start on Thursday, November 25. This is the last time the tournament will take place at the historic Royal Albert Hall, so tennis lovers have a fantastic final opportunity to watch legends of the game battle it out in the beautiful surroundings of this legendary building.
The exhibition tournament will feature daily afternoon and evening sessions, with three scheduled matches per session; two competitive singles matches and one doubles match. Tickets are available from £20 per person and can be purchased via the Champions Tennis website, www.atpchampionstour.com/london.
US Open champion Emma Raducanu and world No.86 Elena-Gabriela Ruse will be joined by tennis legends including British favorite Greg Rusedski, fan favourite Mansour Bahrami, Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, Spaniard David Ferrer, 2006 Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis, and former doubles number four player Radek Stepanek. Other players competing in the tournament include ‘X-Man’ Xavier Malisse, Australian legend Mark Philippoussis, 2010 Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych, former top-fiver Thomas Enqvist, former Russian number one Mikhail Youzhny, and German Tommy Haas.
Other new additions to this year’s Champions Tennis include Swede and Canada Masters winner Mikael Pernfors and Chilean Fernando Gonzalez – who replaces Juan Carlos Ferrero due to other commitments. (photos: Jimmie48)
