Less than a year after giving birth to her first child, Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium is announcing her return to competitive tennis.
On April 15, 2021 Yanina Wickmayer and her husband Jerome van der Zijl became parents to a baby girl named Luana. The former world No.12 and winner of five WTA titles is absolutely confident that returning to competition is the right thing to do now, as she explained on Instagram:
Almost back to doing what i love most and this time i get to share my passion on court with my little family. Accepting this challenge as a mom felt right from the first time I held my racket again after giving birth to our baby girl.
The 32-year-old Wickmayer’s daughter will travel with her:
Luana motivates me everyday to become the best version of myself on and off the court. She inspires me to experience this journey on another level and to enjoy this adventure together.
The last tournament Wickmayer played was the 2020 French Open. According to Sporza, her comeback tournament will be the W25 Porto in Portugal which starts on February 7.
