After reaching the championship match without dropping a set, the Czech team was pushed to three sets by their unseeded opponents from Kazakhstan and Brazil and battled for two hours and 42 minutes before clinching victory.

The Krejcikova/Siniakova pair now misses only the US Open trophy to complete a Career Slam in women’s doubles. They won Roland Garros in 2018 and 2021, and Wimbledon in 2018. Together they have also won the title at 2021 WTA Finals and captured the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo last year.

The No.1 and No.2 ranked women’s doubles players have been a duo since junior days. They won the girls’ doubles titles at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open all in 2013.

Krejcikova and Siniakova were voted as the WTA Doubles Team of the Year for 2018 and 2021. This is their eleventh title together on the WTA Tour.

  1. There is also a wonderful story about the finalists who almost won the AO!
Anhelina Kalinina is a really cool name! She and her partner, Maia, came close to a fairy tale ending at the AO. Congratulations to the best doubles team for sure, but congratulations to the underdog team that made it all the way to the final before falling in a very close match.
