World No.1 Iga Swiatek recorded her 23rd straight win as she cruised past last year’s runner-up Aryna Sabalenka 6-2 6-2 in the final of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany.
The 20-year-old Swiatek never dropped serve as she became the first WTA player to reach 30 match wins this season and won her fourth consecutive title, following Doha, Indian Wells and Miami. Moreover, she has won her last seven finals in straight sets.
Even though this was the Pole’s debut appearance in Stuttgart, she was a clear favorite for the title given her streak this year and the fact that clay is her preferred surface.
After a first-round bye, Swiatek defeated Eva Lys in the second round and fellow young Grand Slam champion Emma Raducanu in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals she prevailed after being pushed to the limit by Liudmila Samsonova, who snapped the top seed’s streak of 26 straight sets won. The final was not dramatic, as Swiatek saved both break points she faced against the third-seeded Sabalenka and advanced in 84 minutes.
Iga’s winning Asics gear: the Asics Paris Match Graphic Tank, Paris Match Skirt, and Gel Resolution 8 Tennis Shoes.
