Playing her first match on grass this season, top seed Iga Swiatek had little trouble in the first round of Wimbledon, as she defeated Jana Fett of Croatia 6-0 6-3.
After bageling the world No.252 Fett in the first set, Swiatek lost focus and her opponent used that to establish a 3-1 lead in the second set. However, Swiatek regrouped and won all the remaining games to earn a comfortable victory and extend her winning streak to 36 matches.
Arriving at Wimbledon fresh off her second Roland Garros title, Swiatek was hopeful yet reserved about her chances at The Championships, given that her experience on grass is very limited:
I still feel like I’ve played like 12 weeks in my life on grass.
In the on-court interview, Swiatek also said that she is still learning to play on grass and adapting in every new match.
