BREAKING: Venus Williams will team up with Jamie Murray in the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon 2022.

Venus Williams

Venus Williams is making a long-awaited comeback, as the American made a last-minute decision to partner with Andy Murray’s brother in the mixed doubles for the first time. Wimbledon is expected to grant them a wildcard. So, Williams’ request to enter has not yet been confirmed, but it is highly likely that the tournament will accept it.

Having been absent from the Tour since August 2021, the 42-year-old Venus is presumably ready to slowly get back to competition by playing doubles, just like her sister Serena did by partnering with Ons Jabeur last week at Eastbourne.

The five-time Wimbledon singles champion Venus Williams has won a total of 23 Grand Slam titles, two in mixed doubles, at the Australian Open and Roland Garros way back in 1998. Great Britain’s Jamie Murray has five mixed doubles titles at Grand Slams, including two at Wimbledon (2007 and 2017).

The Wimbledon mixed doubles competition is scheduled to begin on Friday. (source: Tennis Majors)
