The world No.46 Tomljanovic fought back from 3-1 down to 3-3, but in the crucial seventh game Jabeur converted a break point with a lucky lob and kept the lead to win the first set.

In the second set, Tomljanovic twice recovered from a break down to get the score to 3-3. Just as it seemed that Tomljanovic would constantly be catching up, at best, the Australian won three consecutive games to establish a 5-3 lead. However, Jabeur promptly stopped her momentum with a love break.

In the end, Jabeur managed to edge Tomljanovic in a tense finish to the match that lasted 100 minutes.

Tunisia’s Jabeur has now become the first African woman to reach the semifinals of the US Open in the Open Era. Depending on other results, she could move as high as No.2 in the WTA rankings.
