Iga Swiatek‘s long-awaited switch from Asics to On tennis shoes is finally happening! The world No.1 was spotted wearing a white pair with pink accents while practicing ahead of the 2023 Omnium Banque Nationale in Montreal on Friday.
Iga Swiatek’s exciting switch to On tennis shoes
A month after announcing her new apparel partnership, Swiatek debuted her cooperation with On in April this year, at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. However, she continued to wear the Gel Resolution tennis shoes from her former apparel sponsor Asics. Seven tournaments and three title wins later, the Pole is finally dressed in On head-to-toe. Her tennis racquet of choice remains Tecnifibre Tempo 298 Iga.
The sight of Swiatek practicing in On tennis shoes strongly suggests that she will likely wear them during her first match at the Omnium Banque Nationale.
About On Running
On Running is a Swiss-based company that produces high-quality shoes and apparel. The company was founded in 2010 by Olivier Bernhard, three-time world duathlon champion and multiple Ironman winner, along with his friends David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. On Running is best known for its innovative and unique running shoe design, which features “Cloud” technology – a series of individual pods on the sole of the shoe that provide both cushioning and stability.
On’s first ever performance tennis shoe came into existence after two years of research and testing, with the help of Roger Federer. The 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez was the first top WTA player to wear the shoe in competition.
Update 1: Back to Asics on Saturday
After wearing On tennis shoes during her Friday’s practice, Swiatek returned to Asics Gel Resolution 9 on Saturday, making us wonder whether the switch is truly happening. We’ll see what her final choice will be when she plays her opener on August 8.
During Saturday’s yoga class, Swiatek again opted for On footwear.
Update 2: Asics remains Swiatek’s choice for now
Battling past former world No.1 Karolina Pliskova 7-6(6) 6-2 in her Montreal opener, Swiatek remained loyal to her tried-and-true Asics Gel Resolution tennis shoes, while On was left waiting in the line.
