On Monday night in New York City, Williams was honored with the 2023 Fashion Icon Award, given by CFDA, a not-for-profit trade association of America’s foremost fashion and accessory designers. Media personality and fashion mogul Kim Kardashian handed the award to the 23-time Grand Slam champion, famous for pushing the boundaries of tennis fashion and using the courts as her runway. “The US Open was my own New York Fashion Week,” said the first athlete to win the award, who reinvented on-court style with beaded hair, denim outfits, bodysuits, tutus, etc.

Wearing a black corset gown designed by CFDA Chairman Thom Browne, Williams arrived to the American Museum of Natural History in a black custom-wrapped luxury SUV Lincoln Navigator. Her jewelry was by David Yurman and watch by Audemars Piguet.

Having a passion for design her entire life, Williams found the time to attend fashion school between Grand Slams. In 2018, she launched her own clothing line, S by Serena, established to empower people to look and feel their best.

Past winners of the Fashion Icon Award include Beyoncé, Zendaya and Rihanna.
