Former world No.1 Victoria Azarenka faced a formidable challenge from Peyton Stearns, ultimately triumphing in three sets in the second round of the Miami Open, as her ex-boyfriend Redfoo, who broke her heart ten years ago, was spotted in the stands cheering for her opponent.

Azarenka and Redfoo were in a relationship for two years before breaking up in 2014, two years before the Belarusian got pregnant with Billy McKeague. The relationship of the two-time Grand Slam champion and the musician was quite public, and they were often seen together. Azarenka even appeared in Redfoo’s music video for his hit single “Let’s Get Ridiculous.” The reason for their split was their conflicting work schedules, as the singer whose real name is Stefan Gordy explained:
I think that you know careers are one of the most important things to an individual. She has an amazing career and opportunity to be the next greatest women’s tennis player ever. If Serena (Williams) is the greatest, I think she has the talent and the work ethic to be the next best.
I love my career and music and performing and traveling and I just think that the best environment, the best situation for love, for relationships, is when both people are retired. And that’s what I got to say.
Azarenka opened up to New York Times, saying that the breakup was very painful:
I did get my heart broken; I really did. I’m over it, but it was broken. And I’m not afraid to admit that it was, but it’s life.
Earlier this month at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Redfoo was spotted in American Peyton Stearns’ player box alongside her team, as she lost in the second round to Aryna Sabalenka after wasting four match points.
He also mingled with tennis stars at the Taste of Tennis event at the Hyatt Indian Wells Resort and Spa on March 4. Stearns was there too, but there are no photos of them together. The 48-year-old musician is now at the Miami Open with the 22-year-old tennis player, who happened to play his ex-girlfriend Azarenka in the second round. Despite being pushed to her limits, Azarenka held her ground and emerged victorious in three sets, 7-5 3-6 6-4.
Strearns finished the 2023 season at a career-high ranking of No.43, which was a rise of more than 160 spots from her position at the start of the year.
