Coco Gauff’s fashion sacrifice pays off at Australian Open

Coco Gauff made a bold fashion statement at the Australian Open, donning a Marvel superheroes-inspired outfit with striking cutouts as she powered past 2020 champion Sofia Kenin in the first round. The 20-year-old secured a commanding 6-3 6-3 victory while turning heads with her unique New Balance ensemble.

After the match, Gauff shared the inspiration behind her intricate outfit. “I’m a huge Marvel fan. A lot of the female superheroes have cool cutouts on their outfits, so that’s what I wanted to do,” the world No. 3 explained.

The eye-catching design is a visual standout but also a logistical challenge. Gauff admits the open-back bodysuit isn’t the easiest to manage. “New Balance has great designers, [but] it’s actually kind of a pain to get into, because it is a bodysuit, so I have to, like, put the bottom part [on] first and then pull it over my head, it’s kind of a struggle,” she said. “And if you can’t hold your bladder it’s also not a good idea, but you have to sacrifice for fashion.”

Gauff paired her Marvel-inspired look with her signature New Balance CG2 tennis shoes, sporting the latest colorway in white and green. The basketball-inspired silhouette pays homage to her father’s dream of her pursuing a career in basketball. (source: ESPN)
