“Never knew a love like this existed,” the 31-year-old wrote on Instagram, sharing a series of photos with her newborn daughter.
Warm wishes quickly poured in from across the tennis world. Fellow retired pro Shelby Rogers, who recently announced her own pregnancy, commented: “Tried to like it twice. Congratulations parents!” Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, Alison Riske, Taylor Townsend, and Carla Suarez Navarro also joined in to congratulate the couple.
Puig and Rakitt’s love story goes back nearly two decades. The two first met as young teens at a tennis camp in Atlanta. After reconnecting 13 years later, they’ve been inseparable. Nathan proposed in October 2021 during a hike in Arizona’s Lost Dutchman State Park, and the couple married the following year in a romantic ceremony in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
While Puig officially retired from professional tennis in 2022, she hasn’t strayed far from the sport. She now works as a tennis analyst and remains athletically active, competing in triathlons, running marathons, and playing in Legends events at Grand Slam tournaments.
Monica announced her pregnancy earlier this year in February.
