About a year after her breakup with Stefanos Tsitsipas, Paula Badosa surprised the media in Berlin by revealing sensitive details about the “toxic” relationship and a breakup that was difficult like no other in her life.

Tsitsipas and Badosa spent two years together in the full glare of the public eye, often sharing glimpses of their relationship on social media and quickly becoming one of tennis’ most talked-about couples under the nickname “Tsitsidosa.” But it wasn’t all smooth sailing, as Badosa revealed after her gutsy 1-6 6-3 6-2 win over Coco Gauff at the Berlin Tennis Open.

After reaching the Berlin quarterfinals, where she said “giving up was not an option,” Badosa opened up to the press about her personal life, explaining just how difficult her breakup with Tsitsipas had been:

“I have experienced several breakups in my life. I accept them and I know things are what they are. But when there are toxic things around you, everything becomes much more difficult than a normal breakup,” the 28-year-old said.

“You can have an excellent relationship with an ex, because they are normal people and the relationship remains normal. But when that’s not the case… I don’t need to say more. Every day we see the other person making things more complicated.”

She then made her stance clear with a touch of humor, joking about how the next day’s headlines might frame her comments:

“Now I want to see tomorrow’s headlines: ‘Paula attacks Tsitsipas.’ Well, he deserves it!”

Badosa and Tsitsipas went public with their relationship in June 2023, split in May 2024, later reconciled, and ultimately parted ways again in the middle of last year. Tsitsipas is now dating Kristen Toms, an American former NCAA tennis player who later transitioned into modeling and content creation. According to the latest publicly available information, Badosa is currently single.
